Deen Dayal Upadhyay Gorakhpur University or just Gorakhpur University is located in Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh.The University of Gorakhpur is a educating and residential-cum-affiliating University. It is located at a distance of about 2 kilometers kind the downtown to the east and virtually walking distance from railway station to the south. Though the thought of residential College at Gorakhpur was first mooted by Dr. C.J. Chako, the then Principal of St. Andrews Faculty, then below Agra University, who initiated submit-graduate and undergraduate science instructing in his school, the concept bought crystallized and took concrete form by the untiring efforts of Late Pt. S.N.M. Tripathi.

The proposal was accepted in principle by the primary Chief Minister of U.P., Late Pt. Govind Ballabh Pant, however it was only in 1965 that the College came into existence by an act handed by the U.P. Legislature. It truly started functioning since September 1, 1957, when the colleges of Arts, Commerce, Law and Training have been started. In the following year, 1958, the faculty of science came into being.

Faculties of Engineering, Medicine and Agriculture came into existence in later years. Late Mahant Digvijay Nath also made valuable contribution within the formation of the University.
