Ways to Improve Your Job Search
Our nation continues to struggle with creating new jobs for those needing to work. Many have become discouraged and have dropped out, stopped looking. Others have become stagnant, bored, discouraged and disgusted. No call backs received, no matter the amount of follow ups completed.
It may take someone with a fresh pair of eyes to have the vision. You probably heard it all before but this examiner is here to let you know not to give up. Keep going regardless of the amount of pebbles that you have encountered on the road, keeping going!
Widen Your job search
Many have registered on one or Multiple Job Search Engines. Have you searched under one position or many? It may assist you if you broaden your spectrum by choosing more than one category. Get the Sunday paper; believe or not, this may sound ancient, but it is effective. Have you considered signing up with an employment agency or temp agency? This may direct you to the breakthrough that you have been waiting for.
Spruce up your resume
This examiner attended a workshop recently on resumes. It was suggested that we explore the different styles that may be the right fit. Example; Chronological or functional that is the question?
Career fairs
Chances are that, if you have been on the Job Search for quite some time. You may know many in’s and out’s of going to career fairs. Example: Are you familiar with the 30-second commercial? This is where you get to say in 30 seconds or less, what you are about to a prospective employer.
This can be intimidating, if you are the shy type. It would help, if you take the time to practice in front of a mirror prior to going to the event or the night before. Remember, a firm hand shake and good eye contact as you do this. Take plenty of resumes.
Workshops

Network
Take every opportunity to network wherever you go. Do you have old contacts from previous employment? It would be beneficial, if you contacted those individuals.
Let them know that you are looking for employment. Use social media for your cause; Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn to name a few. You’d be surprised, as to whom may have an open door waiting for you.
Visit old stomping grounds
This would be an extended part of networking, but you would do this in person. If you have kept in touch with ex-coworkers over time, you may want to call or visit them.
